48時間前のベルリンのアリーナにあった空気は、単なるバスケットボールの試合のものではなかった。それは、バスケットボール界の世界的な構図が大きく動いたことを示す瞬間だった。
NBAは何十年にもわたってヨーロッパとの関係を模索してきたが、オーランド・マジックがメンフィス・グリズリーズに118-111で逆転勝利を収めたこの試合は、ひとつの章の終わりであり、次の章が決定的に始まったことを感じさせるものだった。

The atmosphere inside Berlin’s arena 48 hours ago wasn’t just about a basketball game; it was about a seismic shift in basketball's global landscape. While the NBA has flirted with Europe for decades, the Orlando Magic’s 118-111 comeback victory over the Memphis Grizzlies felt like the closing of one chapter and the definitive opening of another.

NBAはもはや“訪れている”のではない。ここに“入り込んできている”のだ。

The DNA of this relationship stretches back to 1978, when the Washington Bullets first touched down to face Maccabi Tel Aviv. In the nearly five decades since, NBA teams have largely dominated the scoreboard with a 75–17 record against European sides. However, the scoreboard has never been the point, the presence has.

As I watched the warm-ups in Berlin, I couldn’t help but think back to the 1997 McDonald’s Championship in Paris. I had the privilege of being courtside when Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls captivated the European basketball landscape. Seeing "His Airness" in person was a religious experience for the game here; that fierce, untouchable aura he carried is something I’ve never seen replicated. I remember snapping a photo of him, one of the best I’ve ever taken, capturing a moment where the NBA felt like a visiting spectacle from another world.

Today, that "alien" feeling is gone. The NBA isn't visiting anymore; it’s moving in.

新時代へ：2027年、そしてその先へ | The New Era: 2027 and Beyond

ベルリンの熱気をさらに高めていたのは、つい先日発表された歴史的なニュースだった。NBAとFIBAがついに手を組み、2027年10月を目標に新たなヨーロッパリーグを立ち上げるという発表である。レアル・マドリードのような名門クラブの参加も見込まれており、いわゆる「エキシビション（親善試合）」の時代は、これで公式に幕を閉じた。

その進化は、今週のロスターにもはっきりと表れていた。これはもはや「アメリカ人が海外でプレーするリーグ」ではない。真のグローバルリーグだ。今季NBAには71人のヨーロッパ出身選手が在籍しており、そのうち6人がこのベルリンで行われたマジック対グリズリーズの一戦に出場していた。オーランドにはゴガ・ビタゼ（ジョージア）、ノア・ペンダ（フランス）、ワグナー兄弟とダ・シルバ（ドイツ）。メンフィスにはサンティ・アルダマ（スペイン）がいる。

The energy in Berlin was fueled by the recent landmark announcement: the NBA and FIBA are finally joining forces to launch a new European League in October 2027. With titans like Real Madrid expected to participate, the "exhibition" era is officially over.

We saw that evolution reflected on the rosters this week. This isn't a league of Americans playing abroad; it’s a global league. The NBA now counts 71 European players this season, six of those players were represented on the Magic and Grizzlies game in Berlin. Orlando features Goga Bitadze (Georgia), Noah Penda (France), the Wagners and da Silva (Germany), while Memphis has Santi Aldama (Spain).

The local connection was palpable. Seeing the Wagner brothers return to the court, Franz after a 16-game absence and Moe continuing his inspiring comeback from a 2024 ACL tear, was a homecoming that brought the Berlin crowd to its feet. Alongside teammate Tristan da Silva, the trio represents the new face of German basketball. They aren't just NBA players; they are World Cup champions playing the world’s best brand of basketball on their home soil.

The game itself lived up to the hype. Paolo Banchero put on a clinic, finishing with 26 points and 13 rebounds, while Franz Wagner shook off any rust with 18 points and nine boards. For Memphis, Jaren Jackson Jr. was a force, dropping 30, supported by Santi Aldama’s 18.

The only shadow was the absence of Ja Morant (right calf), though Commissioner Adam Silver provided a silver lining, noting optimism that Morant will suit up for the "return leg" in London this Sunday.

2027年と2028年にはマンチェスターとパリでの開催もすでに決定しており、NBAはもはやヨーロッパに「立ち寄っている」段階ではない。

「今後3シーズンのレギュラーシーズン公式戦をヨーロッパで開催するという発表は、フランス、ドイツ、イギリス、そしてこの地域全体におけるNBAバスケットボールへの驚異的な勢いと需要の高さを反映しています」
と、NBAヨーロッパ＆中東担当マネージング・ディレクターのジョージ・アイヴァゾグルーは語った。

The demand is overwhelming. Tickets were sold to fans from 62 countries for Thursday’s game, the NBA said, and more than 250,000 people tried to obtain tickets by registering on the league’s site. This isn't "growth"− it's a takeover. With Manchester and Paris already locked in for 2027 and 2028, the NBA is no longer just touching down in Europe.

“Announcing the next three season's regular-season games in Europe reflects the incredible momentum and appetite for NBA basketball in France, Germany, the UK and across the region," said George Aivazoglou, NBA Managing Director, Europe and Middle East.

The NBA Berlin Game 2026 marked a truly special milestone for The Playmaker Japan.

Launched only in August 2025, our platform received official media accreditation through the NBA for the first time and was granted formal approval to cover a game on site. This marked our first assignment of a credentialed reporter, Andres Lopez-Puente, to an NBA game under official credentials.
